Appraisal Meeting of EEP

        On the afternoon of April 30th, Appraisal Meeting of English for Elegance and Profoundness (EEP for short) was held at the conference room of Eastern Administration Building of Guangzhou University (GZU for short). Prof. Xiao Kunxue, Dean of School of Foreign Studies, acted as the host. At the meeting, Prof. Liyi, Dean of CIBT of GZU gave a introduction of the background of EEP; and Xu Junyi, an assistant professor of School of Foreign Studies, shared her experience of using the EEP text books.

       Following was an enthusiastic discussion about EEP by the attenders. They are: Prof. Wand Dongfeng, Assistant Dean of School of International Studies and Director of Department of University English; Prof. Zhong Shuneng, Dean of International Education of South China University of Technology; Prof. Zhao Junfeng, Director of Center for Translation Studies of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies; Prof. Chen Xiaoru, Assistant Dean of School of Foreign Languages; Prof. Tang Weisheng, Dean of School of Foreign Languages of Southern Medical University; Prof. He Xianbin, Dean of College English Department of Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University; Prof. Gong Changhua, Dean of School of Foreign Languages of Guangdong Pharmaceutical University. All the experts expressed their recognition to the achievement of EEP, and at the same time, they put forward objective suggestions on the development and promotion of EEP.

       In the end, the expert group came out with the consistent appraisal result on the basis on full understanding and heated discussion about EEP:

       Guided by College English Curriculum Requirements and with the background of education reform, EEP project is a new try of college English teaching mode. It is advanced, scientific and practical as this project not only absorbs the successful college English teaching experience and the latest achievement of the relative researches, but also conforms to the requirements of talents cultivation mode in the 21st century. In addition, taking into consideration of college English teaching reform, the development of English major, and the effects of technology information, EEP text books are content-creative, well-structured and ambitious. It is the combination of language ability and learning ability that makes EEP text books satisfying to international talents cultivation of higher education. In conclusion, EEP project is creative in design and effective in practice, therefore, it is worth recommending to be used to a deeper extent and on a larger scale.
